Story
The historical roots of Khvanchkara wine date back to the late 19th century when Rachan nobles Dimitri and Luarsab Kipiani perfected ancient local winemaking techniques. By applying an incomplete fermentation process to the unique Aleksandrouli and Mujuretuli grape varieties, they created a flawless semi-sweet red wine known originally as "Kipiani Wine". In 1907, this exceptional drink won the Grand Prix at a prestigious wine exhibition in Ostend, Belgium, putting Racha on the global wine map. During the Soviet era, the winery was nationalized and the beverage was officially renamed "Khvanchkara" after its micro-zone. Today, Royal Khvanchkara honorably safeguards and continues this unique royal legacy.
